New Senate minority leader outlines terms under which Dems are willing to work with Trump

Maybe the leaders of the Democrat Party have forgotten that they are weaker today than they have been in over a century.

Newly minted Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) told CNN on Tuesday:

[T]he only way we’re going to work with him [Trump] is if he moves completely in our direction and abandons his Republican colleagues. Ninety, 95 percent of the time, we’ll be holding his feet to the fire and holding him accountable.

Well, that’s not so unreasonable. Schumer didn’t demand that Trump change party affiliation, cut off his right arm, and sell his firstborn child into slavery.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

So, did CNN’s Dana Bash, who was conducting the interview, accuse Schumer and his party of “obstruction,” the go-to epithet used against Republicans during the Obama years? Nope. Instead, she kissed up to Schumer, reminding him that he loved making deals and was the consummate dealmaker.

Seriously.

Here’s a videoof the money part of the interview. A transcript follows.

Dana Bash: For Schumer, success will be even more complicated, a fine line between when to work with Trump and when not to.

Chuck Schumer: The only way we’re going to work with him is if he moves completely in our direction and abandons his Republican colleagues. Ninety, 95 percent of the time, we’ll be holding his feet to the fire and holding him accountable. But we’re Democrats. We’re not going to just oppose things to oppose them.

Bash: I’ve known you for a long time. You love a deal, not unlike the president-elect. I find that hard to believe, that you don’t want to make deals with him.

Schumer: Well, here’s the problem. The Republicans in the Senate and the House have been run by a hard right group, an almost Tea Party group. And they are so far away from where we are…

Bash: But now they’ve got a deal maker in the White House, just like you.

A newly released study finds that CNN is the least trusted media source among likely voters. Is it any wonder why?
