Talk about throwing good money after bad!

In reaction to actor George Clooney’s hosting a fundraiser in Los Angeles for Democratic front-runner (and sometime friend of Wall Street) Hillary Clinton, supporters of rival Bernie Sanders lined the route taken by her motorcade on Saturday and threw cash at her. Literally.

CNN producer Dan Merica tweeted out a video of the protest, adding a soundtrack that included the 1933 “Gold Diggers” tune “We’re in the Money”:

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

According to The Blaze, the crowd hurled dollar bills at Clinton totaling $1,000 in all. The cash was provided by Howard Gold, whose family founded the 99 Cents Only chain, lending a delicious symbolic irony to the demonstration. The Blaze explains:

Gold, who is Clooney’s L.A. neighbor, held a counter-fundraiser, the “99% Party,” for Sanders Saturday evening, charging attendees $27 for a ticket, compared to the $33,400 charged per person at Clooney’s event.

And no, in case you’re wondering, Madame Secretary did not exit her limo to collect the cash.
