The good news (if it is accurate, and at this point it seems premature) is that the police have ruled out terrorism as a motive for the depraved and deadly act. The bad news is the act itself, which was perpetrated CNN reports, by Lakeisha N. Holloway, 24.
Holloway has been charged so far with a single count of murder with a deadly weapon after driving her car onto a sidewalk along the Las Vegas Strip early this morning, deliberately mowing down pedestrians, one of whom died of his injuries. Other charges that are likely to be filed include multiple counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, leaving the scene of an accident, and child abuse/neglect — the last of these stemming from the fact that a 3-year-old was in the car with her.
Eyewitnesses say Holloway was driving down Las Vegas Boulevard when suddenly her car jumped onto the sidewalk and started striking pedestrians. She is reported to have driven the on and off the sidewalk at various where there were pockets of pedestrians. Ultimately, she drove off only to be intercepted by police.
