Security be damned: NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo says ‘doors are open’ for Syrian refugees

Despite bipartisan security concerns over the acceptance of Syrian refugees, and a Homeland Security director warning that it will be nearly impossible to keep ISIS terrorists from coming into the country with the flow of people, Governor Andrew Cuomo has channeled Barack Obama, declaring “Our doors are open.”

He made the comments in an email to supporters.

Cuomo is putting a lot of faith in the federal government – which frequently loses track of or ignores violent illegal immigrants, and has a strikingly low success rate in finding weapons at airports – to keep his state, and New York City, already the victims of the worst attack on American soil, safe from an influx of terrorists.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

And he did it using a phrase that hopefully, God willing, won’t come back to haunt him.

Via State of Politics:

At the same time, Cuomo has said he believes the federal government is up to the task of screening refugees following the terrorist attacks in Paris last week.

“The next time the Republican candidates take to a podium, they’re going to try and confuse the issue, talk about how immigrants are the problem, to use this as a justification to make us afraid of them, and to further divide us,” Cuomo wrote in the email. “That’s not how we think in New York. Here in New York, we aren’t afraid of our immigrants, we celebrate them. As I’ve said many times before, in New York our diversity is our strength.”

He added, “The Statue of Liberty is still in the harbor, and the doors are open.”

In September, Homeland Security Program Director Steven MacMartin, issued a warning that it would be nearly impossible to prevent ISIS terrorists from being part of those entering America with the Syrian refugees.

Assemblyman Kieran Michael Lalor urged Cuomo to continue the humanitarian effort and send aid to Syrian refugees overseas. However, “there is nothing humanitarian about putting at risk the lives of Americans in general and New Yorkers in particular,” he explained.

Meanwhile, this series of maps shows a frightening correlation between refugees, mosques, and terrorist activity here in the United States.

New York ranks particularly poorly, coming in behind only California in the number of mosques, third in refugee arrivals, and demonstrating serious terrorist activities across the state, and across multiple terror groups.

With all that said, Cuomo is going full Obama on the Syrian refugee crisis and ISIS threat. Security be damned.

It’s a far cry from Cuomo’s earlier days when he told pro-Second Amendment, pro-life supporters, that they “have no place in the state of New York.”

Seems we now know who Cuomo views as the real terrorists.
