Chutzpah is not a word found in Spanish (or in Mexican, if you’re Barack Obama), but it’s one that the 11 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. should learn. They already practice it bigtime.
A group that calls itself United We Stay has produced its own Bill of Rights for “undocumented Americans.”
On its website, the group writes:
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
Since Congress refuses to act, it’s time we take matters into our own hands. Our Undocumented Americans’ Bill of Rights is a good start. Instead of making impregnable border security the beginning and end of all immigration discussions, let’s find a real roadmap forward.
They go on to pooh-pooh the idea that they should have to “get in line and enter the country like our ancestors,” which is known for short as legally.
Here is their document. (Click the graphic to see a version that can enlarged.) As to what they can do with it, what’s Mexican for “shove”?
Here’s a thought. We’ll stop deriding the outrageous and galling demands of criminals who sneak across our border when the country they are escaping from does the same. Here are some of the current practices in Mexico for illegals who enter that country:
- An illegal immigrant who sneaks into the country, or fails to file his papers, will face fines, jail, deportation, or a combination of the three.
- An illegal immigrant who forges his documents, or falsifies them by lying when he fills them out, will face fines, jail, deportation, or a combination of the
- An illegal immigrant who takes a job faces fines, up to six years in prison, and deportation.
- All immigrants must provide proof of their legal status if the authorities demand it. Failure to do so will result, once more, in fines, jail, deportation, or a combination of the three.
