What do you think of when you see the phrase shooting an elephant? If you’re a creature of breeding and discernment, you probably think of the scene from “Animal Crackers” in which Groucho Marx recounts having shot an elephant in his pajamas.
Thinking of the elephant that symbolizes the Republican brand is probably less likely to come to mind, especially if the person aiming and firing is a Democratic politician. Dems, as you know, are appalled by gun violence. No self-respecting would-be member of Congress running on the Donk ticket would ever stop so low as to appear in an ad with this theme.
Whether Estakio Beltran, who is running for Congress in 4th District of Washington, has any self-esteem is open to speculation. In an ad released by his campaign, he is shown firing a rifle at a piñata elephant.
