Out of the $3.8 billion dollars Obama wants for emergency funding from taxpayers, $625 million would be for fighting wildfires. The rest would be to deal with illegal immigrants from Central America.
An AP report revealed that “the money would help increase the detention, care and transportation of unaccompanied children.” Additionally, “the money would increase the capacity of immigration courts, increase prosecution of smuggling networks and help Central American countries repatriate border crossers sent back from the United States.”
Does this money include the funding already announced by Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson?
“The Vice President announced that the U.S. will be providing a range of new assistance to the region, including $9.6 million in additional funding for Central American governments to receive and reintegrate their repatriated citizens, and a new $40 million U.S. Agency for International Development program in Guatemala over 5 years to improve citizen security. An additional $161.5 million will be provided this year under the Central American Regional Security Initiative to further enable Central American countries to respond to the region’s most pressing security and governance challenges.”
A local ABC affiliate reported that planeloads of about 140 illegal immigrants will be arriving in California every three days at about $70,000 for each chartered flight. Does President Obama’s request include this funding?
As reported at the Examiner, the federal government has hired over 5,000 “escorts” for “unaccompanied alien children,” and is still hiring. Does President Obama’s request include this funding?
The mind boggling amount – $3.8 billion – has not raised many eyebrows in progressive circles. However, many on the left have become fiscally responsible when it comes to funding the Benghazi investigation, which evidently will cost taxpayers $3 million. White House White Deputy Press Secretary Eric Schultz is particularly bothered. Keith Ellison and Nancy Pelosi also decried the wasteful spending.
Speaker Boehner is wasting $3 million on another partisan political investigation. We have more pressing business. http://t.co/8pWckhuJFR
