Tensions are boiling over at the border and on social media sites. It may be premature to say that the handwriting on the wall points to all-out conflict, but that is precisely what one commenator is predicting in today’s op-ed pages.
If there is a civil war in the U.S., count yourself lucky to be on the side that supports the Second Amendment, especially if you yourself are a gun owner. Although the data in it are too ancient to be reliable, a Gallup poll from 2005 probably gives a sense of the split today when it comes to gun ownership and party affiliation. According to the poll, Republicans were nearly twice as likely to own a gun as Democrats, 41% to 23%.
