Picture of the Day: U.S. President bows to Japanese robot

What’s the big deal? He’s bowed to everyone else by this point, including — hard to know whether to laugh or cry — the onetime mayor of Tampa, Pam Iorio. Anyway, the most recent self-effacing gesture by the leader of the free world was only a slight bow (from the waist up) and, arguably, was reciprocal: The robot appears to bow first. The occasion was Barack Obama’s tour of Asia, where his stated goal, according to a White House spokesman, is one of “Asia Pacific rebalancing,” whatever that means.
