Video: Watch MLB player knock cover off ball — literally

Once again, life imitates art, if improbably. I mean, come on — what are the odds of a batter, even in the majors, knocking the cover off a baseball? One would imagine they are pretty slim, but Milwaukee Brewers catcher Martin Maldonado defied them in a Friday night victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates:

The video of Maldonado’s feat doesn’t quite match the drama of the scene from the film “The Natural” that follows, but give it a day or two. Some enterprising high school kid is sure to slow down the action and add triumphal music:
