On Thursday, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., admitted she wanted socialized health care during a press conference highlighting the 4-year anniversary of Obamacare, telling reporters present she actually wanted a single-payer system.
“Yeah, any bill that’s passed isn’t perfect,” she said. “I wanted single-payer. I wanted public option.”
Pelosi also claimed Obamacare is a political “winner” in swing states this year, despite poll numbers showing just the opposite.
According to an article posted by the NRCC, Pelosi said Democrats aren’t running on Obamacare, a statement the NRCC said “must be news to the DNC and DCCC.”
“Democrats are now on offense over the Affordable Care Act, putting Republicans on their heels over the costs of their plan to repeal the law altogether,” DCCC Executive Director Kelly Ward said in a memo last month.
A video posted by the NRCC shows a testy exchange between Pelosi and a reporter who asked why premiums are rising, citing statements made by the insurance industry.
“Really, who?” Pelosi asked, obviously upset about the question.
“Name names,” she repeatedly demanded.
When asked directly if she thought Obamacare would lower premiums, Pelosi simply turned from the podium without giving an answer.
She also scolded a reporter for calling the law “Obamacare,” even though the president has referred to it as “Obamacare.”
“In the current environment, in a swing district, is Obamacare a winner or a loser?” a reporter asked.
“You have to ask the member, but I believe it’s a winner,” she said. “And by the way, it’s called the Affordable Care Act.”
This isn’t the first time Pelosi scolded a reporter for saying “Obamacare.”
“First of all, it’s called the ‘Affordable Care Act,’” Pelosi told a reporter in January.

Even if it were called the “Ham and Cheese Sandwich Act,” it would still contain the same provisions that, for example, could see government bureaucrats in the homes of some expecting children, and it would still require all Americans to purchase a government-approved healthcare plan or face a penalty.
“Today’s hour-long gaffefest disguised as a press conference shows what Nancy Pelosi’s party is up against this fall. Even Pelosi—the architect of ObamaCare—can’t explain the benefits of a law that is more unpopular by the day,” said NRCC spokesman Matt Gorman.
The Washington Free Beacon posted a picture from the conference showing very few reporters showed up to hear what Pelosi had to say.
