Hillary: Benghazi is my ‘biggest regret’

Regrets, she’s had a few. (One of them is almost certainly “standing by her man” after he proved himself to be a heartless cad who would lust after anything in a skirt, but — hey! — going through the motions of being “happily married” seemed like a fair trade-off for a run of her own at the brass ring.)

We are talking of course about former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who celebrated the one-year anniversary of her humiliating appearance before a House committee investigating the even more embarrassing administration mishandling of the Benghazi raid. Clinton punctuated her contempt for the whole affair by throwing up her hands at one point, and declaring in an exasperated tone, “What difference at this point does it make?”

The question, meant to be rhetorical, backfired for the grieving families of the slain ambassador and three aides and for Americans everywhere, who were shocked by the secretary’s callousness.

Now, if we are to believe the sincerity of her remarks to the National Automobile Dealers Association in New Orleans, she herself is a little shocked at her own behavior.

When asked to identify possible “do-overs” during her stint as America’s top diplomat. Clinton said:

My biggest, you know, regret is what happened in Benghazi. It was a terrible tragedy.

Clinton of course has her sights set on another run for the White House. Here’s hoping the American public can give her another opportunity to experience regret — of a more personal kind.
