The Assyrian International News Agency is picking up on a report published by The Modern Tokyo Times that is calling for the United Nations to treat the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as an “international pariah” due to the Saudi government legally sanctioning a number of basic human rights abuses.
One of the leading recipients of American foreign aid, Saudi Arabia was cited violating even the most basic of United Nation’s calls for civil treatment of all. MTT maintained that the ruling House of Saud’s Sharia Law governed nation routinely sanctions and/or finances the following:
- Child marriage for girls as young as 8-years-old.
- Religious persecution of all non-Muslims.
- Denial of even the most basic of rights for women.
- International Terrorism.
Specifically, the MTT noted the punishment for any woman found in public not wearing the full body burkha:
Women face being whipped if they dress liberal in public.
Long Litany of Legalized Barbarism…
Examiner.com last year covered one of the most influential Muslim clerics world-wide, the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah as ruling that it was morally permissible for Muslim men to marry pre-pubescent girls. Also previously covered by Examiner.com, a young Saudi woman was recently sentenced to 200 lashes and a six-month prison sentence for being raped.
As the Saudi court ruled, the woman was to blame for initially violating the country’s Sharia Law, which strictly forbids women from socializing, regardless of however objectively innocent, with men they are not related to.
One of the many sad tales of abuse coming out of Saudi Arabia is the case of Sri Lankan domestic worker Lahanda Purage Ariyawathie who took a contract job in the Kingdom’s capital of Riyadh in 2010.
As reported at the time by the The Sunday Leader (of Sri Lanka), Ariyawathie sought only to earn enough money to pay for her children’s medical bills and to purchase a small home in place of the mud hut they lived in. But as The Sunday Leader described it, the contract maid instead faced “slave punishment” at the hands of the “Master and Madam” as well as their seven children.
Standard punishment was beatings, often being hit in the face with shoes or other solid objects, but the height of her abuse was the 23 iron nails that were hammered or pushed into various parts of her body (see photo).
As the 49-year-old Ariyawathie related:
It was the most traumatic experience, the most excruciating pain.
But I could not scream for the children too would stand by me with knives and make signs that they would slit my throat if I shouted.
The Madam was strong and held me down each time the Master drove the nails in.
Not until she was unceremoniously sacked and sent packing back to her native Sri Lanka did Ariyawathie get the nails surgically removed.
To add insult to injury, “Master and Madam” withheld all the pay she had earned.
