A fan of the British boy band One Direction was not feeling the love, and so she gave the group an ultimatum: “Follow me [on Twitter] or I’ll break my dog’s neck.”
They didn’t and she did, according to MailOnline, which advises that the story may be a hoax.
One can only hope so, for the sake of the Chihuahua, which the unnamed woman claims to have killed in a fit of rage because her requests to be “followed” went unanswered.
The Mail observes that “with millions of tweets being sent to their account every day, the group very likely did not spot the message and it went ignored,” adding:
Several days later, she wrote directly to band member Liam Payne on the social networking site to say: ‘I love you. Follow me. My dog has just died.’
The user account under which the woman posted, @illumivato, has been suspended.
The initial post — in which the threat was made — was accompanied by a picture of a small dog being pinned to the ground by its throat. The second post carried a picture of a young woman sobbing and apparently cradling a dead dog.
Other Images that were reportedly taken from the @illumivato page before it was suspended show animals in blenders and a small child tied up.
Each comes with similar messages threatening to kill them if the boy band didn’t follow her on Twitter.
Fans of the band, who call themselves “Directioners,” have branded the woman a “psycho.” One has set up a petition at Change.org demanding that woman be imprisoned. That is easier said than done since reports of the incident, which have circulated primarily in the Spanish and South American media, have uniformly failed to identify the woman name or her location.
One Direction has not yet commented on the incident.
