The basis and model for the American Girl Scouting program, the British Girl Guides, have announced that they will be dropping the pledge to “love God,” and will replace with a vow to themselves, as reported by the right-of-center news portal Breitbart.com.
The 103-year-old Girl Guides oath always had the vow of fidelity to The Almighty until the new change just went into affect. The reference to God has been replaced with a promise to be true to “myself” and develop “my beliefs.”
Reportedly, the move was to attract more girls from secular households.
Earlier this week, The Times (of London) also reported that “my country” has been replaced by “my community.”
But luckily for the reigning monarch, the promise to serve the Queen and all subsequent monarchs has survived the cut.
Merit Badge For Safe Sex…?
Dropping God isn’t the only head-turning change the leadership and confidence building group has made.
A 2007 survey of 1,000 Girl Guides determined that fourth on the list of life skills they would like to see incorporate into their official program would be courses on safe-sex.
The Chief Executive at the time, Liz Burnley, stated that “future education programs will be based on these results” according to The Times (of London) via Life Site News.
The same report also cited that in 2001 the Girl Guides worked hand-in-hand with the government-funded Sex Education Forum in order to introduce lesbianism to the Guides.
Reportedly, the learning would include “information” and “support” for the young girls.
Kicking It Up A Notch For Reproductive Health Services…
A delegation representing WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts) attended the 2010 United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, where they weren’t shy of making their demands known:
- We demand access to comprehensive sexuality information, services and supplies for all young people.
- All young people must have access to comprehensive sexuality education and sexual and reproductive health services, including contraception and emergency contraception, in order to avoid unintended pregnancies.
- Sexual and reproductive health services should, as a minimum, be accessible, affordable and safe.
- All young people should have access to psycho-social health services for prevention of gender-based violence and violence against women.
Kicking It Up Another Notch For Feminism…
Last year saw Julie Bentley, Great Britain’s leading advocate for abortion and leader of the Family Planning Association, was appointed as the Chief Executive of Girl Guides, as reported by The Times (of London).
Bentley made it clear that she was proud to be part of what she dubbed “the ultimate feminist organisation.”
