Wales: Muslims live in fear after bacon, spitting attack

In the wake of the brutal public slaying of British soldier Lee Rigby at the hands of two admitted Islamic Jihadists, Muslim residents of the British country of Wales have expressed fear for their lives after two separate incidents that reportedly involved pork products and saliva.

According to the Welsh news portal Wales Online, young Muslims “fear a backlash” and that “a rising tide of hostility will engulf them” after the beheading of Drummer Rigby last week on a London street in broad daylight.

Spits Isn’t Just a Nickname for a WWII Fighter Plane…

The British charity Faith Matters has taken it upon itself to investigate an alleged spitting upon of an unidentified Muslim resident of an unidentified town somewhere in the general location of the Welsh capital city of Cardiff. The paper carried no indication of whether the alleged spatting upon was ever reported to police as a clear cut case of assault.

According to the charity’s website, Faith Matters’s cited purpose is to “reduce extremism and interfaith and intra-faith tensions” via diversity development workshops, interfaith dialogue, and other such projects.

No Eggs or Toast…?

Also cited as a fear inducing threat was the allegation of bacon left outside of a local mosque the day after the Drummer Rigby’s killing. According to the tenets of Islam, swine and any pig-related foodstuffs are considered haram (Arabic for “forbidden”) due to being considered unclean. As is written in the Muslim book of worship book, the Koran:

[al-A’raaf 7:157]

We do not doubt for an instant that the pig is a dirty and filthy animal, and that eating it is harmful to man. Moreover it lives on dirt and filth, and it is something that is off-putting to those of a sound nature who refuse to touch it, because eating it is either a cause or a sign of a person’s oddness.

Speaking of Haram…

Taken as a given in the United States, there is no guarantee of free speech in British law, regardless how distasteful as perceived by some. Those who express displeasure and/or disagreement with Islam, however crude, are subject to arrest.

In the absence of arrest, Wales Online has branded such as “hateful” and “racist,” even though Islam isn’t a race. One example cited was a posting on the Welsh Defence League‘s (WDL) Facebook page:

Still believe Islam is the religion of peace? How many more have to die to disprove the lie?

Another WDL, Facebook posting referenced an individual who refered to Muslims as “scum.”
