Dog lovers are fond of swapping stories about ways in which their pooches act human. Tonik is a dog with the added distinction of looking human.
The poodle-Shih Tzu mix, who was rescued last week from a Kentucky “kill” shelter, is now up for adoption. TIME laments that it’s hard enough for cute pups to find homes but that Tonik’s “eerily human-like face” make the chances even slimmer.
The good news, the article notes, is that the pooch’s status as an Internet phenom may help shift the odds back in his favor. In the meantime:
Homeward Bound, the northern Indiana animal welfare group that took him in, is getting him up to date on his shots and prepping him for life in a new home. According to his Petfinder profile, he hasn’t had much socialization but is good with other dogs. He’s been vet-checked, micro-chipped and neutered.
