The Piers Morgan saga: Irritant without a country

The Piers Morgan saga: Irritant without a country

Should he stay or should he go now?
Should he stay or should he go now?

CNN anchor Piers Morgan found himself initially as the focal point of a petition to the White House to see the British subject sent packing back to the land of his birth.

Yet a new petition to the Chief Executive is asking that Morgan stay in the United States… for reasons that would warm the cockles of every Tory heart on that particular Blessed Plot, as reported by Mediaite on Dec. 26, 2012.

British born, bred, educated, lived most of his life in, and subject to the British Crown, Morgan caused quite the stir here in America while interviewing pro-gun ownership advocate Larry Pratt, the Executive Director of Gun Owners of America, calling him:

‘[a]n unbelievably stupid man’ who’s ‘dangerous,’ concluding the interview by saying, ‘You shame your country.’

The White House Has 30 Days To Respond…

Using the White House petition portal, the petition to deport English anchor now stands well over 80,000 signatures, well past the 25,000 required for a Presidential response.

As the petition reads:

Deport British Citizen Piers Morgan for Attacking 2nd Amendment

British Citizen and CNN television host Piers Morgan is engaged in a hostile attack against the U.S. Constitution by targeting the Second Amendment.

We demand that Mr. Morgan be deported immediately for his effort to undermine the Bill of Rights and for exploiting his position as a national network television host to stage attacks against the rights of American citizens.

The (British) Empire Strikes Back…

Since then, a counter-petition has made its way to the White House petition site calling for Morgan to say in The States, essentially, because the British don’t want him back.

The three-fold petition specifically requests:

Keep Piers Morgan in the USA

We want to keep Piers Morgan in the USA.

There are two very good reasons for this. Firstly, the first amendment.

Second and the more important point. No one in the UK wants him back.

Actually there is a third. It will be hilarious to see how loads of angry Americans react.

The current (as many are calling it) “You Wanted Him, You Can Keep Him” petition stands well under 5,000 signatures.

Its proponents have until Jan. 24, 2013 to muster the well over 20,000 signatures required to be considered worthy of an Obama response.

Yes, Piers. An Idiot…

In 2003, Morgan took great delight in commenting on a spill President George W. Bush made while riding a Segway, causing minor scrapes to the American President:

You’d have to be an idiot to fall off, wouldn’t you Mr President?

If anyone can make a pig’s ear of riding a sophisticated, self-balancing machine like this, Dubya can.

Yet in a 2007, Morgan himself was less than graceful on a Segway, resulting in three broken ribs, as reported by The Daily Mail.

As Morgan described the bone crushing incident:

His ‘toned muscular, tanned, superfit torso’ (as he describes it) continues straight along the road but sadly his feet remain planted to the rogue Segway.
