Long-time libertarian leader admits he is a ‘progressive,’ not a libertarian

Nicholas Sarwark was the leader of the Libertarian Party from 2014 to 2020. But he recently admitted that he is a progressive. Libertarians are socially liberal, but fiscally conservative. Libertarians are opposed to socialism, leftist economics and redistribution of wealth. Sarwark is not that. By his own admission, he is a “progressive” who has a “left lean on economics.”

As Sarwark explained on the Bluesky website, the “ideology” that is “closest” to his own is “Liberal Progressive.” This includes a “moderate left lean on economics.” If you are a normal libertarian and have views that are not economically leftist, Sarwark will view you as a bad libertarian, because he says that “Libertarianism came from the left and belongs on the left.”
