Bernie Sanders’s novel plan for correcting media bias

The timing is more than a little interesting, coming as it does just as New York Times op-ed veteran Nicholas Kristof bears his soul in a manner that is sure to get him drummed out of the Society for Highbrow Intelligent Thinkers. (Figure out the acronym for yourself.)

In a piece that ran Saturday titled “A Confession of Liberal Intolerance,” Kristof wrote, somewhat refreshingly:

We progressives believe in diversity, and we want women, blacks, Latinos, gays and Muslims at the table — er, so long as they aren’t conservatives.

Universities are the bedrock of progressive values, but the one kind of diversity that universities disregard is ideological and religious. We’re fine with people who don’t look like us, as long as they think like us.

And, no, the column is not a belated April Fool’s prank. Kristof goes on to acknowledge a truth that conservatives have long been aware of and that liberals have strenuously denied.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

The primary example he cites is the very conspicuous anti-conservative bias found on college campuses, though he could have pointed to the flagrant example played out daily right there in his own place of work.

Other headlines in today’s LU Web Crawler betray similar awakenings among journalists on the left, which makes you wonder if a new age of self-awareness is finally dawning.

I wouldn’t bet on it, but if we are at such an intellectual crosswords, no one sent the memo to presidential wannabe [score]Bernie Sanders[/score], who was a guest on the Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC last Friday where he called for — drumroll — a more liberal version of Fox News to help fix the problems he sees in corporate media.

Here’s the video:

Is it possible that the Vermont socialist doesn’t own a television or that he is unaware that Fox News was created as an alternative to the nonstop liberal bias exhibited by the three major networks in their news coverage?
