There is no better indication of how far out of control liberal bureaucracies are in their efforts to make nice to people who believe they are trapped in the wrong body than a draft proposal by the Michigan State Board of Education. The proposal, which is here, would allow school-age children as young as kindergarten to choose their gender, name, personal pronouns, and — perhaps most importantly — bathroom.
To make matters worse, Superintendent of Schools Brian Whiston is on record saying that students alone — i.e. not their parents or doctors — can determine what gender they self-identify as. In other words, a concerned parent who feels convinced his child is confused or just going through a phase has no recourse but to dress the child in clothing appropriate to his chosen gender and allow him to do his business in whatever bathroom he chooses.
It’s all well and good that these liberal bureaucrats are concerned about transitioning (or transitioned) children, but they seem to be forgetting their responsibility to a host of other children who are comfortable in their skin.
Some 20,000 parents of school-age children have commented at the website Every Voice Counts in Michigan, which is an open forum on the draft proposal. Here are some comments:
I am deeply disturbed over the loss of parental rights on this issue. My child is a legal minor until the age of 18. The school board has no right to take away my rights as a parent to decide what is best for my child. This bill needs to be rewritten and take into consideration that as a parent I AM THE LEGAL GUARDIAN of my child NOT THE SCHOOL BOARD. I am appalled that this also applies from K-12….
…My 11 year old daughter has asked that if this passes, if we can move out of Michigan because boys do not belong in her changing room or bathroom period! She should feel safe in school, with girls and girl parts only in her dressing room!
Many of these children will be at the vulnerable age of puberty and this will invade the privacy of our children at the time when they should be able to be in the safest areas of school – showers, rest rooms and locker rooms. Girls will have to share a shower with a male student who will be given the right just because he claims a female gender identity and visa versa. This will provide wide open opportunities for abuse.
Let’s make EVERYONE feel uncomfortable and unsafe so a few kids can have a better day at school. I’m sure it will be a much better learning environment and not at all distracting with little boys in dresses. I rue the day my daughter comes home and asks me why little “Janie” has a penis. I guess straight kids don’t have rights because they aren’t part of the whining minority. Keep the indoctrinated liberal bull, my kids will be going to private school.

My children and grandchildren are respectful of others and deserve the same respect of not having people that were born the opposite sex in the same bathroom and looker room as them .You wonder why people home school and others like Obama who claim they believe in this but because they have the money to send there children to private school due so. Please do not do this to us , our children and grandchildren that believe this is wrong .
As a Bus Driver, our School’s policy does not allow non-riders on the bus without a physical note from a parent/guardian. But we would allow the same students to choose what gender identity, bathroom, and locker room without one? Giving these students these protections is one thing when the parent/guardian is involved, but leaving this “student oriented” and without the need for medical/legal/or parental consent is very FOOLISH.
Once again our Government run Public Schools are hostile re-education camps. The school board contains 3 times as many Democrats as Republicans. That says it all. This matter is nothing more than the LGBT agenda of sexualizing America’s children. The gender confused students who perceive themselves as some imagined gender is one of mental illness, (note the words perceived and confused)….
Most telling of all is a statement by the president and board members of the American College of Pediatricians, which begins:
