It’s time to play another round of “That’s Racist!”
The game is simple, and anyone can play, though being liberal and/or black gives you a huge advantage.
Our first contestant is Oliver Willis, a research fellow at the Media Matters for America, a nonprofit (and tax-exempt) organization that identifies its goal as setting straight the record slanted by conservatives. Mr. Willis, welcome to the show.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
Here’s your first question. Please tweet the hidden “dog whistle” meaning of GOP front-runner Donald Trump’s statement that Hillary Clinton in 2008 was “schlonged” by Barack Obama.

And there you have it.
For those of you out there who don’t eat, sleep, and dream racism, the obvious inference to be drawn from Trump’s use of a Yiddishism that in its noun form means “penis” is that Barack Obama is a rapist who targets white women.
Willis’s “reading” of racism into a comment that only tangentially mentions Obama is not the only such extrapolation about Trump’s base beliefs made this week. Two days ago, another black man asserted that Trump’s dislike for Obama derives from his inability to accept a black president.
The great mind behind that observation? Barack Obama.
