Seattle yoga class ‘respectfully asks’ that these people not attend

“If it’s illegal and considered racist for a white, straight business owner to deny service to a gay person or person of color, shouldn’t the same be true for a yoga class that bars white people from attending?” So asks KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson, as reported by MyNorthwest.com.

At issue is a yoga class called “Yoga for People of Color.” According to an email blast about the class, it is aimed at serving people of color and of all sexualities, ages, body sizes, abilities, genders, and experience with yoga.

It specifically welcomes “lesbian, bisexual, gay, queer and trans-friendly/affirming,” plus people who self-identify as “African American/black/of the African Diaspora, Asian, South Asian, West Asian/Arab/Middle Eastern, Pacific Islander, First Nations/Alaskan Native/Native American/Indigenous, Chican/Latin, or Multiracial/Mixed-Race.”

Since people who self-identify as black are welcome, Rachel Dolezal would fit right in. So for purely superficial reasons would I. But not you, white man.

The email concludes with the advice that “white friends, allies and partners are respectfully asked not to attend.” It’s nice that they “respectfully ask” because discrimination is best served “respectfully.”

Which is what this is, plain and simple. Excluding any individual from an activity or opportunity based on race, creed, or color is discrimination. Period. Progressives can’t cherry-pick instances where it’s okay to discriminate, and instances where it’s not.

So much for inclusiveness.

Look on the bright side, I suppose. The class isn’t taxpayer-funded.
