Video: How to skin a watermelon

There is something vaguely racist about this video, by former NASA engineer Mark Rober. Nevertheless it has gone viral, having been viewed over 22 million times as of this writing.

The trick to a fully skinned watermelon, Rober explains in the video, is to start with two watermelons, which are ultimately spliced together, the seam “erased” using something he calls “watermelon sandpaper.”

Rober, who is white, seems to have a fixation with watermelons. His YouTube channel, Creativity Design Science, also features a step-by-step tutorial for a “no-mess” watermelon smoothie.
