Tweet of the Day: Ayatollah sets us straight on eve of Netanyahu speech

You knew Ayatollah Khamenei wouldn’t have anything good to say, as the final countdown begins to Benjamin Netanyahu’s historic speech tomorrow to the joint meeting of the U.S. Congress.

Khamenei has specialized in anti-Semitic commentary for years, calling Israel a “cancerous tumor,” for example, in 2012 (doubling down with “malignant Zionist tumor,” lest anyone be unclear on his meaning), and headlining the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s top 10 list of purveyors of anti-Semitism in 2013.

And who could forget Khamenei calling for the annihilation of Israel in November 2014, just as the renewed nuclear talks with the P5+1 were to get underway?

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Khamenei is the comedian who in January 2014 commemorated the death of Ariel Sharon by tweeting that Sharon had been a “vampire” and a “vulture.”  (I’m trying in vain to imagine, oh, let’s say, the Pope, or the Chief Rabbi of Israel, calling anyone who had just died a vampire or a vulture.)

In terms of the Tweet of the Day sweepstakes, Khamenei’s Twitter account tends to be a target-rich environment.  So it’s probably not much of a surprise that he gives us, once again, our Tweet of the Day.
