CAIR asks Obama to say ISIS isn’t Islamic; Obama says OK

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a group that has been at the center of controversy in the past, asked President Barack Obama to distinguish the Islamic State, or ISIS/ISIL, from Islam when he made his primetime speech Wednesday. The president was apparently only too happy to comply.

Specifically, CAIR requested that Obama reject the terrorist group’s “misappropriation of Islamic terms and concepts” during his address to the nation, during which he outlined his plan to deal with ISIS/ISIL.

According to CNS News, CAIR’s national executive director Nihad Awad said:

American Muslims will evaluate the president’s strategy based on his willingness to reject ISIS’ misappropriation of Islamic terms and concepts, his clear support for the mainstream opposition to Syria’s murderous regime, his insistence on a non-sectarian government in Iraq, and his recognition that ISIS was created and is fueled by the lack of freedom and justice in the region.

It appears that when CAIR speaks, Obama listens.

“Now let’s make two things clear,” he said, according to the White House Press Office. “ISIL is not ‘Islamic.’ No religion condones the killing of innocents. And the vast majority of ISIL’s victims have been Muslim.”

In response to the president, there are numerous passages in the Quran and other Islamic teachings calling for the death and torture of nonbelievers, including fellow Muslims, according to The Religion of Peace, which states:

The Quran contains at least 109 verses that call Muslims to war with nonbelievers for the sake of Islamic rule.  Some are quite graphic, with commands to chop off heads and fingers and kill infidels wherever they may be hiding.  Muslims who do not join the fight are called ‘hypocrites’ and warned that Allah will send them to Hell if they do not join the slaughter.

As for CAIR itself, although it bills itself as an Islamic civil rights organization, the FBI said that the group has ties to terrorism. The group was an unindicted coconspirator in a case in which money was sent to help finance Hamas, according to RedState.com, which reported:

One key piece of evidence in the case was the wiretap evidence heard in the case put CAIR’s executive director, Nihad Awad, at a Philadelphia meeting of Hamas leaders secretly recorded by the FBI. Participants hatched a plot to deceive Americans and disguise payments to Hamas as it launched a campaign of terror attacks. CAIR co-founder Omar Ahmad joined Hamas big shots at the summit.

There’s no way of confirming that the president’s statement about ISIS was in direct response to CAIR’s request. But it seemed strange and misplaced–it had little if anything to do with any proposed strategy to deal with the jihadists.

As of Thursday, Sept. 11, there are 861 days left until the end of the Obama presidency, according to TimeAndDate.com. It’s going to be a long 861 days.
