South Carolina teen arrested for completing school assignment (Video)

A freshman student was arrested this week for completing a school writing assignment after being turned in by his own teacher.

On the first day of class, freshman students at Summerville High School in Summerville, S.C., were told to write a few sentences about themselves as if posting a status update in Facebook, according to National Review Online.

Alex Stone, 16, turned it into a creative writing exercise.

“I killed my neighbor’s pet dinosaur,” he wrote, adding that he used a gun to “take care of the business.”

Apparently concerned that authorities may still be looking for the dino-cidal maniac, his teacher notified school authorities, who in turn alerted the polioce.

NRO reported:

On Tuesday Stone’s locker and bookbag were searched, and no gun was found. But Stone was still arrested and charged with disorderly contact, and school officials suspended him through the end of the week. Stone’s mother, Karen Gray, told local outlet WWBT-TV that school officials never contacted her about the incident.

Stone’s suspension caused him to miss most of the first week of classes, and he now has an arrest record. He is scheduled to return to Summerville H.S. on Monday, but he says he wishes he had the option to attend a different school.

Really? Pet dinosaurs? Has it come to that? Apparently having an actual adult in the room is too much to ask for nowadays.

The following TV news report includes an interview of Stone. He seems like a nice kid. In fact, I’ll go out on a limb and guess South Carolina’s dinosaur population has nothing to fear from him.

But then again you never can tell–just ask the so-called “adults” in Summerville, and watch the local Channel 5 News report:
