A disclaimer for starters: I will accept here as a matter of faith (no pun intended) that there are sane practitioners of Islam who bristle at the acts of savagery and depraved indifference committed in the name of their religion. I will even go so as to stipulate that the majority of Muslims enjoy normal, healthy sex lives.
Which makes my question all the more poignant: Why are the most bloodthirsty of Muslims, jihadits, so utterly and completed obsessed with getting a little nookie? And don’t tell me they aren’t. The well-advertised reward for martyring oneself in the name of Islam, a notion that connotes killing as many innocent infidels as you can, is 70 virgins, yours for the deflowering.
And why virgins? Because there is the underlying precept that real Muslims are big on purity. So much so that they want their women to cover up from head to toe while out in public so that they are virtually unseeable by other men. But at the same time these men are no strangers to rape, an act that combines their lust for violence with their carnal lust. In May, a 25-year-old Indonesian widow found guilty of adultery was sentenced to a flogging — but only after eight members of the “morality police” took turns raping her. Her punishment, incidentally, was to be nine lashes delivered publicly to her “bare back and buttocks.” No word on whether drooling among spectators was discouraged.
In another charming story that occurred in Saudi Arabia in March, an imam raped and tortured a 5-year-old female because he doubted that she was a virgin.
Now comes the latest clerical ruling out of Egypt that sanctions male-on-female voyeurism wherein the eye candy is one’s betrothed. From Al Arabiya:
An Egyptian preacher … issued a fatwa [religious edict] allowing a man to see his wife-to-be “while she is showering” before they marry.
In a video, Salafist preacher Usama al-Qawsi said that the man can “hide” while watching the woman he “intends to marry” bathe.
“If you were really honest and wanted to marry that woman, and you were able to hide and watch her in secret, see the things that she wouldn’t usually let you see before marrying her, then it is acceptable as long as your intentions are pure,” Qawsi said in a video.
If there is a positive to this story, the preacher’s edict was challenged by the Egyptian Minister of Religious Endowments Mohammad Mukhtar, who said:
This is what we say to him and the likes of him, where is the glory and masculinity in watching a woman shower?
Would you allow this to happen to your daughter?
I’m not sure I want to know Qawsi’s answer to this last question.
