TIME’s political quiz will tell you if you’re really conservative

I just discovered that I am 30% liberal and 70% conservative. But I have to admit that I cheated. I took TIME Magazine’s quiz that claims to be able to predict whether an individual is more liberal than conservative or vice versa, and some of my answers were less than truthful.

The quiz consists of 12 questions that, according to their experts, “have a statistical correlation to a person’s political leanings, even if the questions themselves are seemingly apolitical.”

So what do the quiz makers consider liberal traits? Using an up-to-date browser is one of them. (I use Chrome.) Having a messy desk is another sign that you are a lib, and so is a lack of enthusiasm for mixing cultures and/or breaking down national borders. (One wonders whether the folks at TIME regard the EU as a triumph.)

One of the most revealing questions — revealing, that is, about the quiz makers — has to do with whether you prefer action movies to documentaries. If you like action movies (meaning presumably that they include lots of gun violence), you’re obviously a right winger. If, in contrast, you prefer documentaries (meaning you spend your time on more cerebral pursuits), you’re most decidedly a lefty.
