Thankful for faith, friends and football

FootballAdmission: It has become increasingly harder for this 2008 Housing-Bust-and-subsequent-Great-Recession-ravaged South Carolina Gamecock now roosted atop Stone Mountain of Georgia, to be thankful during the anemic so-called recovery brought to America by Obamanomics.

We don’t live on Wall Street, K Street or a fracking-good state. No, we continue to struggle with hunger games outside of the Capitol City with scribblings such as this dedicated to the proposition that all men and women are endowed by their Creator with the unalienable right to eventually understand how liberal Democratic Party policies fail all but well-connected cronies and Big Business sell-outs every time.

Yes, I’m a Jacksonian, tea partier conservative Republican. But mostly I’m just an average American trying to recover to the point that I can one day again afford Le Sueur-brand peas instead of having to settle for generic brands so I’ll have enough change left over to buy gasoline so I can get back to the grocery store next week for more peas. One day again…carrots?

But even in the Age of Obama, so far (knock on wood), our average sufferings still do not approach what the Pilgrims, Washington’s Continental Army, and the unemployed during the Great Depression endured.

God is still on his throne, the NSA has not yet become the Stasi (even if the IRS has for conservatives), Washington’s professional football team is still lovingly named the Redskins, and I just had a turkey sandwich, albeit with Kroger-brand green peas, with friends. It was a struggle for America to become that exceptional nation President Ronald Reagan called the City on a Hill and we accept the challenge here at JoeForAmerica to struggle on to again make it so.

In the meantime, we are ready for some football of the NFL, Alabama-Auburn and especially our beloved University of South Carolina Gamecocks-giving-Clemson-Tigers-a-chickin’-lickin’-on-Saturday, varieties!

On Thanksgiving Day, God bless America.
