It’s always moose and squirrel.” – Boris Badenov, 1960

One of the cornerstones of Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! initiative has been to motivate America’s children to a healthier lifestyle by setting the example herself. Case in point: She personally broke ground on the White House’s own “Kitchen Garden” to supplement the foodstuffs for the Chief Executive’s Mansion.

Unfortunately, since the the government shutdown, there have been no taxpayer-funded White House gardeners to tend to the garden, resulting in weeds, rotting produce, and squirrels running rampant in the presidential patch, as reported by The Telegraph (of London, England) on Oct. 15, 2013.

As cited, with only “essential” workers allowed on the White House grounds, staff can only remove trash and water plants. It’s strictly verboten for employees to pull any of the sprouting weeds, tend to the molding fruit and vegetables, rake leaves, or shoo away the ever-increasing army of squirrels that seem to have invaded the White House area.

According to Eddie Gehman Kohan, head honchoette of unofficial Foodorama blog, which tracks and documents the status of the First Lady’s Kitchen Garden:

There’s one word: astonishing.

It’s never, ever looked like this – it’s just going rampant, there’s stuff rotting on the ground that’s been lying there for two weeks.

Time to Blame Fox…

As if a wild fox taking up residence isn’t bad enough, there is at least a hawk who swoops in on a regular basis to thin the dray of squirrels that reportedly become emboldened by and have become “even more aggressive with the low level of human intervention.”

Both squirrels and foxes have been known to be carriers of rabies.

Reportedly, the problem compounds itself every day that the problem goes unabated in the 1,500 square foot garden.

To date, there have been no media sightings of Michelle Obama tending to her garden.

Busy, Busy, Busy…

As reported earlier this month by Front Page Magazine, Michelle Obama had to let go an unknown number of her taxpayer-funded sixteen-member personal staff during the much media-ballyhooed government shutdown.

Not only is the FLOTUS unable to tidy her garden, she also reportedly now will only be posting on Twitter on a “limited” basis.
