Only now that the Sharia-loving, Israel-hating, Coptic Christian-persecuting Muslim Brotherhood is out of power is the Obama Administration reviewing aid to Egypt.
A year-long winter of discontent for Egyptians yearning to breathe free morphed into last month’s long hot summer of contempt for Arab Spring-spawned President Mohamed Morsi, thus spawning its own mass protests leading to the removal of his Muslim Brotherhood regime via a military coup. The subsequent expressions of outrage from U.S. President Barack Hussein Obama reminded of the latter’s long-standing public love for the former:
On his first trip abroad following his 2009 Inauguration, President Obama insisted that the Sayyid Qtub-terror-defined Muslim Brotherhood be allowed to attend his Apology Tour Speech in Cairo. Yes, the same Muslim Brotherhood that inspired Usama bin Laden al Qaeda and its surviving “core” member Ayman as-Zawahiri, whose recent communications were leaked to justify the unprecedented closing of 28 American diplomatic outposts from Mauritania to Bangladesh, but I digress. Then, after pushing out the American- and Israeli-friendly government of Hosni Mubarak during the Arab Spring, he insisted that the Muslim Brotherhood’s decades-long terrorism-and-Sadat-assassination-caused-political exile end, so they could participate in the 2012 national elections that eventually brought Mohamed Morsi to power.
So, it should have come as no surprise that when the “democratically-elected” government of the ‘hood suspended the Egyptian constitution, much as Obama not infrequently does with our venerable governing document here at home, Barack saw no evil. Then when Morsi commenced the imposition of Sharia law, as written in the chattel-slavery-of-females book that Obama always reverentially refers to as the “Holy” Koran, our Chief Executive heard no evil. And finally when the ‘Hoods persecuted Coptic Christians, not only was there no “review” of aid to Morsi’s government, but the speak-no-evil silence of America’s Commander-in-Chief was deafening in its denial.
But now that the Islamist betrayers of traditional American values and universal human rights are getting their comeuppance at the hands of a military backed by millions of Egyptians in the streets, the son of Kansas and Kenya that once described the Islamic call to morning prayers “the most beautiful sound in the world” in between bowing to Muslim leaders, only now discovers cause for concern in the Land of the Nile:
“Our aid and assistance relationship with Egypt is under a review, but it has not been cut off,” said White House spokesman Josh Earnest.
The White House disputed news reports that the U.S. has already decided to suspend most forms of military aid to Egypt, stories that cited comments from the office of Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt. The State Department has announced that the U.S. government still has not delivered some $585 million in Egyptian aid, about half the total package for the fiscal year that ends Sept. 30.
Earnest said Obama ordered a review of aid to Egypt after the military removed President Mohammed Morsi from power, and “that review has not been concluded.”
The United States began granting military aid to the most influential Arab nation on Earth in conjunction with President Jimmy Carter’s Camp David Accords that led to over 35 years of peace, and counting, between Egypt and Israel. America has also given such aid to the Jewish State since 1978 as well, but the treaty agreed to between Menachem Begin and Muhammed Anwar al-Sadat (assassinated by Morsi’s Brotherhood) is not conditioned upon continued aid to either nation.
Of course, Israel is a democratic ally of the United States in a region dominated by despots and Islamist terror-supporting governments. The United States didn’t have to coerce Jews to grant basic human and civil rights within its borders and they arguably have needed military aid to confront the enemies that surround them. On the other hand, U.S. payments to Egypt have arguably been to buy influence there so as to encourage the Land of the Pharaohs to reject alliances with radical terrorists bent on the destruction of Israel.
In any event, even before the Arab Spring, this conservative would have been receptive to ending military aid to Egpyt and Israel given the long history of peace serving both of their interests and the relatively small marginal amounts we provide. After the Muslim Brotherhood took power, this Republican was for cutting off aid to them given the decades-long stance they have taken against Israel’s very existence and U.S. and Western Judeo-Christian Civilization generally, even before President Morsi made clear by his actions that the U.S. was buying no influence there worthy of lovers of human rights.
We are happy that the Islamist evil of the Muslim Brotherhood no longer rules where Abraham’s Joseph once sought refuge for the Hebrew people and from where Moses led an exodus from slavery. And it appears that the Egyptian military has decided to try and rid their land once and for all of the group that killed Sadat and that has terrorized them for decades, with financial help from Saudi Arabia and others that dwarfs any aid that President Obama could still confer upon them.
But given that we never threatened to cut off aid when evil with a capital-M led Egypt, we do not favor a cut-off of aid now, at a time when the lesser evil of the Egyptian military is seeking to rid their nation of that greater evil. The message that would send to a Muslim world where nature is abhorring the vacuum of power surrendered by Obama from Libya to Iraq to Afghanistan, could only serve to declare open season on Israel, Jews, Christians and any Muslim whose definition of jihad doesn’t include the perpetration of more Fort Hoods, Boston Marathons and 9/11s.
