Have they stopped printing those gold, glue-backed stars that teachers back in the day gave out for a job well done? Or aybe it’s an example of new “creative” teaching that prompted a southern California special education teacher to offer herself as first “prize” for the best composition.

New York’s Daily News reports that the teacher, 31-year-old Summer Hansen, has been charged with 16 felony counts involving five minors, all male. The teacher at Centennial High School in Corona, Calif., allegedly had sexual relations with her students in the classroom, a school utility room, her parked vehicle, and one of the student’s homes, according to Riverside County District Attorney’s Office.

The charges, which were filed Tuesday, included unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, unlawful oral copulation with a minor, and sending harmful matter to a minor. If convicted, Hansen could serve up to 13 years in state prison.

A search warrant affidavit prepared by Corona police and obtained the Press Enterprise in Riverside maintains that she propositioned one student using suggestive text messages. She also sent the 17-year-old photos of her in her underwear and naked on a tanning bed.

The student, whose identify has not been released, reported engaging in a sex act with Hansen during a Saturday detention session, where students normally received discipline or caught up on missed work.

Two other students told said that they also had sex with Hansen, who was arraigned Thursday.

Her lawyer told the Press Enterprise in July that his client is on administrative leave but denies any wrongdoing.
