Conservatives plan protest to 'rage against the media' in Los Angeles

MSM TV network logosIf you’ve ever thought there was nothing you could do to combat media bias besides turning the television off, think again.

A group of conservative activists fed up with media bias are set to “rage against the media” in a protest to be held on the northwest lawn of the federal building at 11000 Wilshire Blvd. in Los Angeles, Calif., on Saturday, Aug. 17, organizer Karen Siegemund said in an exclusive interview with Examiner.com on Sunday.

The protest, set to last from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., will feature live music and special speakers to include talk show host Tony Katz, actress Kira Davis and Andrew Marcus, director of “Hating Breitbart.”

Other speakers include actors Dwight Schultz and Gary Graham, according to the rally flyer.

Siegemund said that conservative speaker Evan Sayet would be present along with conservative blogger Jim Hoft, who runs the Gateway Pundit.

In addition to rallying against media bias, organizers intend to issue two “Integrity in Journalism” awards — one to CBS News’ Sharyl Attkisson for her work on the Benghazi scandal, and another to James O’Keefe for sting operations the so-called “mainstream media” wouldn’t touch.

Siegemund said the issue of media bias is not just a conservative issue.

“Everybody suffers when the playing field is uneven,” she said.

Although the main rally is being held in Los Angeles, she said the group is working towards having rallies at locations around the country.

She also announced on Facebook that the group would help those who want to organize a protest in their city or town.

Media bias and deception is not a new issue, as sites like Newsbusters document daily.

A September 2012 Gallup poll showed that distrust of the media is at an all-time high, “with 60% saying they have little or no trust in the mass media to report the news fully, accurately, and fairly.”

A Breitbart News/Judicial Watch poll conducted on election night last year found that 77 percent agreed with the following statement: “The press is more likely to favor one candidate for office over another at the expense of their journalistic objectivity.”

The situation is so bad that former Democratic strategist and pollster Pat Caddell said last October the mainstream media has become “the enemy of the American people.”

In a speech given July 4 at the Family Freedom Fest in Coarsegold, Calif., Siegemund emphasized the need for a truly free and objective press, quoting “1984” author George Orwell: “Freedom of the press, if it means anything at all, means the freedom to criticize and oppose.”
