In response to what a leading Republican Congressman called a “very specific” threat from the al-Qaeda terrorist network, the Obama administration has shut down the greatest number of American missions overseas since the 9/11 terrorist attacks of 2001, as reported by Fox News on Aug. 3, 2013.
The same terrorists that are the catalyst for the temporary closure of 22 embassies and consulates spanning half the radius of the globe are the very same Islamist gunmen that have received bi-partisan support in Washington, D.C.
GOP House heavy hitter Peter King (N.Y.), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence ostensibly supported the administration’s decision to shutter diplomatic missions from Southeast Asia’s Bangladesh to the Northwest African nation of Algeria when he stated:
We’re not certain exactly where something might happen but it’s very specific as to when and it’s also very specific as to the fact that it is going to happen, so we have to be on alert everywhere.
Meanwhile, Obama’s National Security Advisor Susan Rice met with the Principals Committee (consisting of the Secretaries of State, Defense, and Homeland Security as well as the directors of the FBI and CIA) to “further review the situation and follow-up actions,” prior to briefing by Obama, according to a White House press release.
However, the same Jihadist amalgamation that’s cited by both Republicans and Democrats is the same Jihadist amalgamation both Republicans and Democrats vowed to arm in the two-year long Syrian civil war.
First covered by Examiner.com on June 18, 2013, the possibility of Barack Obama shipping weapons to alleged rebel groups in Syria is no longer a question of “if” or “considering.” Obama made it official earlier this summer when he decided to send arms and ammunition to the various Syrian rebel forces to include the al-Nusra group which has gone public in announcing they are allied with the same al-Qaeda terrorists who attacked the United States on 9/11.
As previously covered by Examiner.com on June 27, 2013, less than two weeks later it was uncovered that the CIA was in the standby mode to send arms to the al-Qaeda allied rebels until further weapons shipments from the Islamists European and Arab allies arrive .
Examiner.com also covered the visit by former Republican candidate for president and current U.S. Senator from Arizona John McCain to leaders of various Syrian rebel groups where he advocated supplying them with heavy weapons in their fight to overthrow the regime of Bashar al-Assad and install a fundamentalist Islamic caliphate. The largest of the rebel groups, the al-Nusra Front, is openly allied with al-Qaeda terrorists.
The right-of-center news portal Front Page Magazine reported on June 4, 2013 that the umbrella group for the vast majority of the various anti-Assad factions, The Free Syrian Army, is now dominated by Islamist brigades like the Muslim Brotherhood’s Tawheed Brigade and the “moderately” Islamist Farouk Brigades, one of whose commanders was recorded on video eating a Syrian soldier’s lungs.
