MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski explodes over judge stopping sugary drink ban, claims soft drink makers poisoning children

Naturally, in the view of left wing statists, government must take on the role of “nanny,” since, in their view, average Americans are just too stupid to live their own lives.

Responding to news that a judge overturned Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s ban on large sugary drinks, MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski exploded in what The Blaze called a “crazed rant” on Tuesday, claiming, among other things, that soft drink makers are producing poison for consumers and their children.

Mike Opelka posted a clip of her rant along with some of her claims and statements.

Among her many charges, Brzezinski claimed theater owners “serve popcorn that is so full of salt it will kill you,” while asserting that the “American Beverage Association is relieved because they can continue to make money poisoning people.”

“At some point there will be a clamp down on the beverage industry, just like the cigarette industry. And they will wear a black hat,” she added.

Brzezinski also asserted that the beverage industry will face legal challenges until “they stop putting sugar, salts, and terrible fats into our food and making them addictive.”

“Don’t be mad at me about that, be mad that you buy this stuff again and again and again. These companies feel like they have to produce poison for you and your children,” she added.

“Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough tried to calm his co-host down, but to no avail.

“Most New Yorkers agree with this judge,” he said. “Don’t tell us what to drink.”

But, Opelka said, most of the on-camera crew were not on board with the ban.

“At one point,” he wrote, “a staffer was seen wearing a hat with two ‘Big Gulp’ drinks from 7-11 while discussing the constitutionality of the soda ban.”

The ban was approved last September by a Bloomberg-appointed health board and was set to begin Tuesday, but New York Supreme Court Justice Milton Tingling overturned the ban, calling it “arbitrary and capricious.”

News of the judge’s decision elated many across the political spectrum, from Sarah Palin to the Teamsters, who “staunchly” opposed what they called a “job-killing ban.”

But instead of recognizing that most did not approve of the ban, Brzezinski continued to rant about she sees as “toxic foods,” Opelka added.

  1. When I was a kid, my mother refused to let me have soft drinks, except as a very special treat. Much more effective than the nanny state!

    • Well Leslie…I remember those days as well (root beer and vanilla ice cream known as a Black Cow but I guess that would be racist today), splitting 2 12oz bottles of Pepsi 5 ways and the rare trip to a then hard to find burger chain known as McDonalds 10 miles away. The “treat” is now the “norm”. And parents are no longer allowed to “say NO”. I don’t know how to reverse it other than to get parents to be allowed to step back in without having the sheriff knocking at the door after the child calls 911. Gov’t prohibition is not the answer (e.g. I laugh at the anti-smoking efforts…making something a bad thing to a kid is like dangling bait in front of a fish).

You’re right. Nowadays it would “African-American cow.”

        • it all depends on the day Howard…I always wanted a tote-board to tell me what the PC term of the day was. When the Washington Redskins are forced to change their name, the NAACP might want to change theirs also…maybe they can share the marketing costs.

          • guess you have a limit on replies Howard (not a problem actually and surprised you have as many as you do since those of us suffering from CRS syndrome have an internal limit). Anyway I don’t have a tote board. I moved to an area where it is not needed (we are the minority but the majority has a casino). You might want to search Ebay though or rent from Tony Soprano.

          • Hey, what did happen to the nested replies? I’m pretty sure there supposed to appear indefinitely. Anyway, teejk, I was joking about the tote board. I would ignore it if I had one.
