“Call in to the Washington state Department of Licensing, and you’ll have the option for Spanish language communication. At least that’s what you’d expect. But instead, the Associated Press reported, an automated AI voice just speaks English with a strong Spanish accent. Maya Edwards, whose husband pressed 2 for Spanish, said, ‘It was hilarious to us in the moment because it was so absurd. But at the same time, it has real accessibility issues for people who … need to speak in a different language.'” The Department of Licensing “apologized and said the glitch had been fixed as of Feb. 27, but calls to the service still resulted in the accented voice and using Spanish words only for numbers, as in, ‘Your estimated wait time is less than tres minutes.'”
In other news, Gregory Saxton, age 35, interviewed for a deputy position with the Warren County, Iowa, Sheriff’s Office, which included a lie detector test as part of the job application. During the lie-detector test, Saxton conceded that he had looked at child pornography on the dark web. Last month, investigators got a search warrant for Saxton’s phone, found child pornography on it, and arrested Saxton, who was charged with 13 counts of possessing child pornography.
In other news, a woman’s armpits leak milk. “Usually, as in this case, the extra breasts aren’t accompanied by areolas or nipples,” reports Gizmodo. There are millions of people across the world who have breast tissue away from their breasts — known as ectopic breast tissue. “‘Ectopic breast tissue is an uncommon entity,’ the” woman’s “doctors wrote, noting it’s only found in around 2% to 6% of women and 1% to 3% of men. Most cases are sporadic, or happen randomly, but about 6% are tied to inherited genetics.”
