After the opening day of Judge Brett Kavaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation hearings devolved into chaos, with paid protesters calling out from the Senate gallery and 63 disruptions by Democratic senators, one might have hoped that Day 2 would be better planned.
There had been talk on Tuesday of closing the hearings to the public, but today’s hearings were every bit as hectic and disordered.
Just a little over a minute Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley’s opening statement, a heckler from the back of the auditorium began to make noise about the rights of people with disabilities. No sooner had he been escorted out of the Senate chamber that a second protester began her own screed about “Mother Earth.” There was a brief moment of silence before another demonstrator began loudly repeating “Sham president, sham justice,” followed by “Stop the slaughter of our children; no more semi-automatic weapons.”
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
As you watch the video, which follows, note how each demonstrator waits patiently for the current disruptor to be removed before sounding off on his own grievance. Note also how each protester has a different liberal axe to grind. You almost get the sense that you are watching a choreographed and rehearsed event — which very well might be the case.
