Meghan Markle said Friday she received a 2018 letter containing “troubling and disturbing allegations” against her father, as her half-brother accused him of possessing child sexual abuse images.

Thomas Markle Jr. claimed to have found “hundreds, if not thousands” of explicit images involving children among his father’s belongings in the Philippines, according to a report by The Sun published Oct. 22. Thomas Markle Sr. has denied the allegations.

Markle issued a statement Friday saying she was made aware of the allegations eight years ago and had restricted her father from seeing her children as a result, according to People.

“I am deeply distressed at the news that has come to light in the last 24 hours, and my thoughts are with any children who may have been harmed,” Markle said.

“In 2018, a letter was sent to the Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection. That letter was subsequently shared with me.” Markle continued, “It made troubling and disturbing allegations against my father and I was given assurances that these were being investigated.”

Markle asserted, “I hope it can now be understood that, despite certain media publications’ distortion over the years, any distance from my father and my choice to not allow him to have contact with our children, was for one reason: to protect them.”

Markle explained that she “trusted that the authorities were doing the same for other families,” before noting that “the breadth of what has now been uncovered is more sickening than one could ever imagine.”

She said she hoped “justice will be fully served.”

Markle’s half-brother, Thomas Jr., claimed he discovered the disturbing material in four large storage bins his father left behind in his home in the Philippines when he moved back to the U.S., and reported his findings to the police, according to the Daily Mail.

Thomas Jr. claimed he opened a computer and saw a screensaver with explicit images as well as a video of a young girl participating in a sex act.

Thomas Sr. pushed back against his son’s story, claiming he hadn’t had the computers since he left Rosarito, Mexico, with his son in January 2025 and moved to the Philippines, according to the Daily Mail.

“Those computers were boxed up in Mexico and put on a cargo ship which took months to get to the Philippines,” he said.

Daily Mail directly asked Meghan’s father if he downloaded porn on his computer, to which he replied, “Never. Never. Never. I have never done that.” (RELATED: ‘It Was Really Profound’: Chris Pratt Reveals Powerful Spiritual Experience While Filming Christian Film Pétros Ení)

He added that he would welcome an expert to examine the computer.

“These terrible lies are being made against me with no proof,” he said. “How can you accuse a man of something like this with no proof?”

Meghan’s father accused his son of making up the allegations “for money,” according to the outlet.
