It’s an honest mistake. After all, they’re both named Willie, they’re both Hall of Fame former major league ballplayers, and they both played for her adoptive hometown team, the San Francisco Giants. Oh, and one more thing: They’re both black.
If a conservative had made this mistake, you’d never hear the end of it. MSNBC, CNN, and the networks would be bellowing at the top of their lungs, “What’sa matter? All blacks look the same to you?” But since it was Nancy Pelosi who made the unforced error, the Left has not so much as raised an eyebrow about the tweet since deleted, that was meant to fête Willie Mays as he turns 90. No one has even remarked on the irony that Pelosi herself appears in the photo, taken in 2018 to commemorate Willie McCovey’s 80th birthday.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
Nancy Pelosi, Willie McCoveySince the mistake was pointed out, the Pelosi camp replaced the deleted photo with one of her in the company of the right Willie. The same text that appeared in the original tweet has been grafted onto this one.
Happy 90th Birthday to an all-American icon, Willie Mays. A trailblazing, record-breaking baseball player, civil rights leader, and champion for youth sports and well-being, Willie Mays is a civic legend and national treasure. #SayHey90https://t.co/KLinpgJ0yL pic.twitter.com/hlpnU4nYpH

One wonders whether anyone from Pelosi’s congressional district will notice and take issue with her faux pas. Then again, few on the West Coast had much to say when the speaker was captured on video in 2020 receiving indoor salon service in violation of COVID pandemic restrictions.
