I don’t intend to get bogged down over the imagined difference between sex and gender, especially since traditionally the term gender was used exclusively as a grammatical distinction, but a Texas state lawmaker is claiming that there are six sexes. His source? “Modern science.”

Via the Washington Examiner:

Texas state Rep. James Talarico made his pronouncement prior to public testimony Tuesday before the Public Education Committee on House Bill 4042, a measure to bar transgender athletes from girls’ K-12 scholastic sports.

Mr. Talarico, a former English teacher, first quizzed Republican state Rep. Cole Hefner, the bill’s sponsor, on how many sexes there are. Mr. Hefner said there were two.

“The bill seems to think there are two,” said Mr. Talarico, who holds an M.A. in education policy from Harvard. “The one thing I want us to all be aware of recognize is that modern science obviously recognizes that there are many more than two biological sexes. In fact, there are six, which honestly, Rep. Hefner, surprised me, too.”

Should anyway think that I’m quoting this guy out of context, here he is in his own words:

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Ever since House Speaker Nancy Pelosi chided Republicans in April 2020, claiming that controlling the pandemic “won’t happen unless we respect science, science, science,” the Left has appointed itself as the ultimate authority on that branch of inquiry.

So where did “scientist” Talarico get his information? He didn’t specify, though, as the Examiner points out, the claim that there are at least six sexes was suggested in a 2013 article by financial asset manager Joshua Kennon titled “The 6 Most Common Biological Sexes in Humans.”

Harvard University, where Talarico obtained a masters in education policy, also submits that there are “more than two sexes.” At least that’s the view held by the school’s Office of BGLTQ Student Life.

The Left-Right tug of war over whether biologically male athletes should be permitted to compete in women’s sports has been raging ever since Joe Biden signed an executive order decreeing that their acceptance was the law of the land. Since that time, several states, most recent among them South Dakota, have issued executive orders of their own that ban transgender athletes from women’s sports.
