Black lives matter, but some black lives apparently matter less than others. Such is the tragically inescapable inference that can be drawn from the deafening silence from the black community and the Left following the shooting death last Sunday of 11-month-old Dior Harris of Syracuse.

The infant, who was weeks away from her first birthday, was a passenger in the back seat of her mother’s car when the driver of another vehicle opened fire, killing her. “She was just a baby,” the child’s mother, Desiree Seymore, told CNYCentral. “She was so strong. She didn’t even cry when it happened, but we lost her.” Dior’s older sister, who was also in the back seat, was also wounded but is expected to make a full recovery.

On Monday police arrested a suspect in connection with the killing. That individual, Chavez Ocasio, 23 was booked on charges of murder in the second degree, tampering with physical evidence, and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. He also faces charges of parole violation. Police also say that Ocasio intentionally cleared all data from his phone as he was being questioned about the murder.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Ocasio is no stranger to violent crime. In 2014, he shot a 13-year-old in the head with a shotgun. He was 17 at the time. The following year, he was sent to state prison for a burglary conviction.

He has pleaded not guilty to the Dior Harris killing.

The question that arises is why, except for a neighborhood prayer vigil for the slain infant, have there been no Black Lives Matter protests in the streets of Syracuse or anywhere else? Is it because the suspect is a person of color and not a cop? Is it because the Left continues to aid and abet in the myth that police “murder” of blacks is epidemic when in fact, as PolitiFact has noted, between 2010 and 2013, “92 percent of blacks who were murdered were killed by other blacks”?

The tragedy that claimed Dior Harris’s life is played out almost daily in the streets of America’s inner cities. How long will the Left continue to ignore this brutal reality? (RELATED: Grandfather of dead 11-year-old: Seems ‘black lives matter’ only when a cop pulls the trigger)
