United Airlines sets diversity goal: 50% of pilots over next decade to be women or POC

Welcome to the friendly woke skies.

On Tuesday, United Airlines announced plans to train 5,000 new pilots by 2030, at least half of them women and people of color.

Color United guilty of burying the lede. It’s not the proposed number of new pilots but the quota cited in the second half of the airline’s announcement that has touched off the latest heated debate over wokeness.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

A fair summary of the con argument can be found in this segment on the topic from last night’s Justice with Judge Jeanine on Fox News, featuring conservative commentator Tomi Lahren and civil rights attorney Leo Terrell:

An equally good encapsulation of the prevailing view on the Left can be found in this tweet by Yahoo Finance’s Zack Guzman:

I can appreciate the Left’s position about jumping to conclusions about minority applicants’ lack of aptitude, but when I fasten my seatbelt in preparation for takeoff, I don’t want to have to worry about whether the people in the cockpit are drunk, high, crazy, tired, or unqualified. When quotas are introduced into any selection process, the risk of incompetence automatically becomes a reality.
