Joe Biden and his wife appeared on CBS’s “The Late Show” with Stephen Colbert last night, where the host grilled them over all the tough questions they have been ducking. For example, Colbert asked the president-elect about his son Hunter, though the question wasn’t quite the kind he might be facing if his son is indicted. Instead, Colbert asked, “What do you say to those people who use your son as cudgel against you?” Elsewhere in the interview, Biden, ever the tough guy, said he’d like “to go a round” with those who attack his son.

I’ve asked the question before but it’s worth repeating: When is the Left going to take Biden to task over his “toxic masculinity”? They were on Donald Trump’s case unrelentlingly, talking up his brutishness when it comes to women. But here’s the most popular Democrat in the history of the party, who not only has a history of pawing women, but scarcely get an entire sentence out without threatening to knock someone’s block off.

His bellicosity came up in Colbert’s hard-hitting question for the missus about the flak she has been taking for her embarrassing insistence on being addressed as and referred to as “Dr.” Toward the end of the Q & A, Colbert turned his attention back to mister, asking, “As a husband who loves this person, did you ever want to, like, get out a length of pool chain and ‘go full Corn Pop’ on these people?”

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

The reference of course is to one of one of Biden’s most embarrassing Walter Mitty moments, which Colbert seems to accept as fact.

You can watch the love fest here. A transcript follows.

STEPHEN COLBERT: You once said in your own memoir, ‘The role I have always felt most at home in is Dr. Biden.’ Now some people have recently taken it upon themselves to question that title of yours. Do you have any reaction to those people?

JILL BIDEN: Yeah. That was such a surprise.

COLBERT: It caught me by surprise as well. I did not see that one coming.

JILL: No, nor did I. And it was really the tone of it that I think — you know, he called me ‘Kiddo.’ And one of the things I’m most proud of is my doctorate, you know, I worked so hard for it. You know, Joe came when I defended my thesis and —

JOE BIDEN: I got to hand her her doctorate on the stage at the University of Delaware. She had two masters degrees, she kept going school all the time while teaching at night. And then what happens is I said, ‘Jill, why don’t you get a doctorate and you make us some real money?’ She gets the doctorate and gets a $2,000 raise. [Laughter]

JILL: But look at all the people who came out in support of me. I mean, I am so grateful and I was just overwhelmed by how gracious people were toward me.

COLBERT: Do you think it might be a little bit of a compliment that people were trying to think of something to criticize you about and they were like, ‘Oh, what do we got? I got it!’

JILL: Okay, I’ll take it that way.

COLBERT: Now what about you? As a husband who loves this person, did you ever want to, like, get out a length of pool chain and go full Corn Pop on these people?

JOE: The answer is, it’s close.

JILL: No. The answer is no.

JOE: No, no, but there are some of these — anyway.

COLBERT: Mm-hmm.

JILL: It was just the tone of it.

JOE: I have been suppressing my Irishness for a long time.

COLBERT: It’s always a smart thing to do.
