I know this sounds a little bit like “War Not Declared,” but the real purpose of this post is to let readers know that commenting on the site remains down and that we have been working tirelessly to restore it.
We have at least isolated the problem. Apparently, we published content that offended Google, which in turn threatened harm to our comments server unless they blocked LU. We are trying to learn what the offense was to see if there is some way we can adjust it.
