The U.S. today is in the throes of a fever. It is not the result of a COVID-19 infection, though we are being told that the number of new cases traceable to the conduct of George Floyd protesters will likely surge again after a two-week incubation period. The fever gripping the country does, however, have some relationship to the protests, and that is in the new position of power enjoyed by the Black Lives Matter movement, which has a 62% approval rating among Americans. Will the nation recover from its illness? Only time will tell.
