“A U.S. Navy hospital ship arrived at New York Harbor on Monday to help relieve local hospitals being overwhelmed by coronavirus patients,” The Hill reports. “The USNS Comfort will treat non-coronavirus patients, freeing up beds so local hospitals can focus on COVID-19.”
Fox News, meanwhile, notes that a second hospital ship, the USNS Comfort, has also reached port, adding an additional 1,000 beds, a dozen more operating rooms, a medical lab, and a pharmacy.
So far, MSNBC host and TDS sufferer Rachel Maddow hasn’t commented on the good news, though ten short days ago she dismissed out of hand the “happy talk” about the ships’ imminent arrival coming out of the White House. Here she is with her usual air of smugness:
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
In terms of the happy talk we’ve had on this front from the federal government, there is no sign that the Navy hospital ships that the president made such a big deal of, the Comfort and the Mercy, there’s no sign that they’ll be anywhere on-site helping out anywhere in the country for weeks yet. The president said, when he announced that those ships would be put into action against the COVID-19 epidemic, he said one of those ships would be operational in New York harbor by next week. That’s nonsense. It will not be there next week.
