Julia Ioffe, a correspondent for GQ Magazine, mocked President Trump and America as a “sh*thole country” following reports that the United States reportedly has more coronavirus cases than any other nation.
In her barb, Ioffe, whose work has appeared at outlets such as the Washington Post and the New York Times, was riffing on a controversial comment Trump made some time ago regarding illegal immigration.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
“In the United States, at least 81,321 people are known to have been infected with the coronavirus, including more than 1,000 deaths — more cases than China, Italy or any other country has seen, according to data gathered by The New York Times,” a report shared by Ioffe reads.
Of course, you’d have to take China’s self-reported numbers at face value for that to be true, and several stories call that proposition into doubt. One notes that the city of Wuhan recently ordered more than 40,000 burial urns despite China’s claim that only 2,535 residents of the city have died of coronavirus. Statistics, moreover, show that the mortality rate for the cases reported in the United States stands currently at 1.5%. In China, it is 4.0%.
Enemy of the People
It is a steady barrage of negativity by liberals like Ioffe that prompted the president to excoriate the media for producing fake news, adding, “I have no time for stupidity.”
Ioffe has a rich history of making vile statements. In 2018, during an appearance with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Ioffe commented that “this president [Trump] has radicalized so many more people than ISIS ever did.” In 2016, she insinuated in a vulgar tweet that the President and his daughter Ivanka had engaged in incestual relationships.
