Joe Biden’s ‘memory lapses’ are nothing new

Presidential hopeful Joe Biden made quite a spectacle of himself last Tuesday when he remained motionless, looking lost, after live-streaming a speech to his followers. It was almost as though he had forgotten where he was or what he was doing there. Even after his wife came out to “rescue” him, he remained in place, staring the camera for several moments more.

This is nothing new for the former vice president, who has been flashing signs throughout the campaign that he has lost a step cognitively speaking. So serious has the problem become that on several occasions he has forgotten the name of the president he served under for eight years.

But a newly unearthed video suggests that Biden’s struggles with memory — which at times coincides with the truth — goes back several decades. The exact date of the clip is not provided, but suffice it to say it harks back to a time when the candidate was comparatively lucid and had dark hair.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

In it, Biden, who is also given to boasting, sometimes to his severe detriment, is shown trying to impress members of the media with his many academic honors and achievements. The only problem, as a younger Sam Donaldson notes, is that Biden’s actual records fail to bear on his version of events.

Watch:

Biden’s character flaws don’t stop at stretching the truth, either. As Snopes (of all sites) reminds us, Biden dropped out of the 1988 presidential race after admitting to plagiarism.

When you’ve lost Snopes…
