Where would the nation be without the political insights of Hollywooders? Take a piece of advice tweeted on Wednesday by actress and self-styled liberal activist Alyssa Milano.

In the tweet, she clarifies for those unsure which party “fights for the people” that it’s the Democrats. Check. She also drops a bombshell: As the 2020 election cycle progresses, she warns that the GOP will increasingly “paint the Dems as socialists. … They’ll drill the word ‘socialist’ into our daily vernacular. Don’t be fooled. This is strategy not sincerity.”

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

It’s great advice. Or at least it would be had it been tendered in 2010, when the majority of Americans, and especially millennials, still approved of capitalism over socialism as opposed to now when the reverse is true. According to a Gallup poll conducted in 2018, 57% of Democrats have a positive view of socialism.

In general, socialism is no longer a dirty word about Democrats as can be adduced from the ascendancy in the party of self-identified socialists such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders.

Other indicators of how far left the Democratic Party has drifted include how proudly its members now wear the “tax-the-rich” label, as evidenced by presidential hopeful Elizabeth’s “wealth tax.” There is also a resistance among Dems to call themselves “moderate,” which has become a dirty word.
